Who Is Doing It?

Updated: Mar 28, 2019

Who are the people destroying thousands of square miles of forests each year? Is it a certain group of people, many different groups of people, or individuals? In order for this world issue to stop, we have to find out who exactly is the cause of this.

Human activities are the main reason for deforestation. Several different groups of people play a role in it. Currently, loggers hold the largest blame because as I mentioned in my previous blog, logging is the main cause of deforestation. Other examples of people who are in favor of deforestation are farmers and miners. Farmers take part in deforestation because they remove trees in order to gain more land for them to be able to plant crops or hold livestock (Ronca). Miners are destroying forests so that they can dig coal, diamond, or gold mines. To be able to do that, they need to be able to fit large equipment in the area which is causing even more trees to be destroyed (Ronca).

To conclude, the groups of people in favor of deforestation need to look at the whole picture. They need to be able to see that they are causing long term damage for short term success. In order for this to stop, knowledge and awareness of this issue needs to be spread.
